Yoga on the BeachSo today is Day Seven .. a cheat day by most standards.

The amazing thing about a healthy lifestyle is that the habit is so strong, it’s actually a challenge to get myself to eat unhealthy. So I don’t. I stay away from deep fried foods and candy, and have no craving for it.

I managed to go cold turkey with most of the unhealthy food and forced myself to eat lean and green. To stay sane, I would have a piece or two of dark chocolate, occasional candy or a timbit, or frozen yogurt. These days I keep those things to bare minimum and only immediately after an intense workout – my cheat hour.

That’s right! Instead of having a Cheat Day, which is counterproductive to your effort, I learned from my nutritionist that the best time to “cheat” is up to 1 hour after an intense workout. This is the only time when the body burns anything you feed it immediately. Thus that is your gold opportunity to enjoy the flavours you might have been craving.

Today being also the Rest Day, I went to my favourite Hatha Yoga class and completely relaxed with a slow pace stretching. With all workouts quick stretching is mandatory, but especially after a hard workout an extended session of stretching will nicely release tension in muscles and get them ready for the next workout.

Consider a Deep Tissue Shiatsu massage on your Rest Day. It will loosen the tight and tense muscles and prevent forming of knots. It relaxes you, improves mood, and gives you a great sense of well-being.
